Fritz Bahns
Fritz was born and raised in Cottbus, Germany. After completing his bachelor studies in chemistry at the University Leipzig, he moved to Aachen, where he specialized in organic synthesis and catalysis. During his master’s at RWTH Aachen University, he conducted research at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim under the supervision of Professor Tobias Ritter, focusing on Ru(II) phenoxo complexes for aromatic substitution reactions. He spent a semester in Ireland, where he worked on Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative asymmetric allylic alkylation (DAAA) reactions in the group of Patrick J. Guiry at University College Dublin. Fritz joined the Schoenebeck group for his master thesis on synthetic approaches towards novel N-fluorinated motifs, before starting his doctoral studies in July 2024.
