Julian was born and raised in Bonn, Germany and undertook his undergraduate studies in chemistry at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn. He moved to RWTH Aachen University for his master studies with an initial focus on organic synthesis and catalysis, but soon discovered his passion for computational studies. Julian joined the Schoenebeck group for his MSc thesis in which he focused on machine learning for homogeneous catalysis, before starting his PhD in July 2020.
